From the editor's desk!
Welcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.
It is July and we missed a June issue completely. With the pressure of
paid work, vacation and meetings, June just flew by and there was never a
chance to write the issue. Until we have a sponsor paying for some of the
work in this newsletter that may happen from time to time.
Of course the penalty for missing a month is that now there is twice as much
stuff to cover, and so you will see that this is a long issue.
There have been a lot of water under the bridge these past two months and
you will get to catch up on some of it below. We continue to get questions
about the facts as they relate to RFID and what are the truths. An article
on this will be published on the web site soon (we had no room in this issue
of the newsletter) that we hope will answer some of those questions.
As always, providing this newsletter is just a part of what we have to offer here
at High Tech Aid. When your problem needs have you overwhelmed, then you
need to get help and that is why we are here. We specialize in education,
but the spectrum of services is much greater than that. Call or email us
for more information. Visit the web site www.hightechaid.com
for more information on basic technology details as well as many other
things.
E-mail me at news@hightechaid.com
and tell us what you think. Don’t forget to send this issue to your
friends so that they can sign up for their own issue of the free newsletter
at www.hightechaid.com.
If you have news to share or info you need, let me know
at news@hightechaid.com.

RFID Standards
Great news at last on the ISO front. ISO/IEC 18000 parts 1, 2 and 3 have
started their FDIS ballot and so we should see publication in
September/October if ISO does its job. Parts 4, 6 and 7 passed their FDIS
ballot and we are waiting for notification that they have been published. We
have been informed that the target date for these three standards is mid
August 2004.
On the EPCglobal™ front we have seen a lot of changes. The specifications
for Class 0 and Class1 have been published and all eyes are on the
Generation 2 versions of these specifications. The work on UHF Gen 2 (as
reported elsewhere) is done and agreement has been reached in principle. Now
the nitty-gritty starts and we work towards the final approval of these
documents in the September/October time frame.
In Europe we hear that the draft proposal for more bandwidth for UHF in
Europe has been accepted and it goes for a National vote. This should close
in September which means that the Autumn is shaping up to be a very busy
time.
If you want more information on ISO standardization or on
any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com.
