From the editor's desk!
Welcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.
Sorry we missed a month in the newsletter schedule. After getting back
from Frontline Solutions this year, I developed bronchitis and had to cut
back on unpaid work for a while. If anyone is interested in sponsoring the
newsletter and so ensuring its monthly delivery let me know.
It has been a hectic two months with many events happening. As you will
read below, the ISO 18000 series of RFID standards are at last published and
are available from ISO or from your local National Body. At the Frontline
Solutions show we had a great turn out with about 125 people coming to learn
the basics of RFID - who says that everyone knows about RFID? At the
EPCglobal™ US conference they had between 1500 and 2000 people in attendance
(depends whose figures you take). And on top of that we see articles on a
shortage of tags, problems between ISO and EPCglobal™, delays in the
publication of the EPCglobal™ generation 2 specification, and IP problems at
EPCglobal™. It's going to be an interesting few months as we try to get
these issues sorted out.
One of the items featured below reports that more than 50% of company
executives do not know what RFID is. If you or your company executives fall
in that statistic, contact us. We can help you get up to speed very quickly.
As always, providing this newsletter is just a part of what we have to offer here
at High Tech Aid. When your problem needs have you overwhelmed, then you
need to get help and that is why we are here. We specialize in education,
but the spectrum of services is much greater than that. Call or email us
for more information. Visit the web site www.hightechaid.com
for more information on basic technology details as well as many other
things.
E-mail me at news@hightechaid.com
and tell us what you think. Don’t forget to send this issue to your
friends so that they can sign up for their own issue of the free newsletter
at www.hightechaid.com.
If you have news to share or info you need, let me know
at news@hightechaid.com.

RFID Standards
At last, ISO have published all of the ISO/IEC 18000 series of standards.
After a long wait while ISO worked their magic in getting everything
formatted to meet their requirements. Soon to follow we will see ISO/IEC
15961 and 15962 being published so we will have all the standards we need to
create an ISO compliant RFID system.
Publication of the ISO standard does not mean that the work at ISO is
finished. A new work item has already been sent to ballot to allow the
committee to re-open 18000-6 (860 - 960 MHz) to bring the new technologies
identified by EPCglobal™ into the ISO arena. This work will start in
November and it will be the vehicle that will allow EPCglobal™ and ISO to
converge.
And what of the EPCglobal™ work to create the Generation 2 Class 1
specification? The latest published information says that the technical
specification is complete but that there are still some procedural issues
that need to be completed. The word is that it will be an approved
specification before the end of the year.
If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of
RFID standardization, then email
