From the editor's desk!
Welcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.
Another month and another year gone by. As I write this many of you will
be doing your shopping for the holiday season, and may even be thinking
about some time off to enjoy with your families and friends. High Tech Aid
would like to wish everyone a great holiday season and a Happy New Year. We
look forward to providing you with the news next year and maybe even working
more closely with a few of you.
It seems that for many the year 2005 was the RFID year that wasn’t. Many
thought that RFID would explode in 2005, but as I wrote early in the year,
we have seen more pilots and more implementations starting, but the
explosion has not yet occurred. Will 2006 be the year? The news on RFID has
grown phenomenally during the year as the main stream media has started to
pick up the topic. EPCglobal™ has moved ahead and we have seen standards
available from ISO and EPCglobal™ to assist with the growth. In 2006 we will
see companies starting to use the technology for real, we will see a shift
in emphasis from the tag/reader to the system, and I predict we will start
to see RFID used in new areas.
Don’t forget to send the newsletter to your friends and encourage them to
sign up. Just forward this issue to a couple of your colleagues and suggest
they sign up on the web site.
Providing this newsletter is just a part of what we have to offer here at
High Tech Aid. When your problem needs have you overwhelmed, then you need
to get help and that is why we are here. We specialize in education, but the
spectrum of services is much greater than that. Call or email us for more
information. Visit the web site
www.hightechaid.com for more information on basic technology details as
well as many other things.
E-mail me at news@hightechaid.com
and tell us what you think. Don’t forget to send this issue to your
friends so that they can sign up for their own issue of the free
newsletter at
www.hightechaid.com. If you have news to share or info you need, let
me know at news@hightechaid.com.

RFID Standards
A busy month of standards work has kept me away from the office for much
of the month. Meetings in Austria for the ISO work were held at the
beginning of December. These meetings were enhanced by the fact that the day
before many of us arrived, there was 70 cm of snow, something that is not at
all usual that early in the season. Needless to say the ski resort was happy
even if the standards people were not. Work on the conformance standards for
ISO 18000 continued as well as work on the amendment to 18000-6. This
standard had just completed a ballot and the committee reviewed all the
comments and revised the document for what should be the last time. The next
move is a simple two month ballot to approve publication – just as soon as
the editors finish the modifications and we sort out the IP issues
associated with Type C. Hopefully we will see this document published by
April 2006.
If you need more specific information on any of this work, let me know.
If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email
