From the editor's desk!
Welcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.
It has been over six weeks since the last newsletter and this one is now
a few days late because of the volume of news that has happened during the
time we have been off the air. Just reading through everything and sorting
it out for your review has taken twice as long as usual. I hope you get some
benefit from this issue. Please forward a copy to your colleagues and
recommend that they sign up for their own copy every month.
We need to welcome a new sponsor to the magazine this month. Magellan
Technology (the RFID company NOT the GPS company), have taken one of the two
sponsorship slots for a while. Magellan's HF RFID technology is unique for
many reasons and I invite you all to visit their web page (http://www.magtech.com.au)
and see what it is all about. Magellan have recently signed an agreement to
supply RFID for gaming chips and have received a A$12 million equity
investment from Progressive Gaming.
Providing this newsletter is just a part of what we have to offer here at
High Tech Aid. When your problem needs have you overwhelmed, then you need
to get help and that is why we are here. We specialize in education, but the
spectrum of services is much greater than that. Call or email us for more
information. Visit the web site
www.hightechaid.com for more information on basic technology details as
well as many other things.
E-mail me at news@hightechaid.com
and tell us what you think. Don’t forget to send this issue to your
friends so that they can sign up for their own issue of the free
newsletter at
www.hightechaid.com. If you have news to share or info you need, let
me know at news@hightechaid.com.
Technology News Briefs
RFID Standards
Wow, we have seen some big steps forward in the standards work at ISO in
the past few weeks. The major focus at ISO was the ballot resolution meeting
for the amendment to ISO 18000-6. This is the air interface standard for UHF
(860 – 960 MHz) passive tags. The amendment brings the EPCglobal™ created
Gen 2 specification into the ISO standard. The first round balloting showed
a resounding yes vote, but there were 174 comments that had to be resolved.
The meeting in Singapore succeeded in resolving those comments, leaving
the project editors to incorporate all the changes. This is complete and the
next ballot will start in the next few days. If you want a chance to see
what the document is doing, join the working group at your national body
level and ask for a copy for review.
The best thing to come out of this work is the recommended changes have
made a much more usable and readable document. The ISO committee is
recommending that EPCglobal™ consider the changes and build them back into
the Gen 2 specification.
If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of
RFID standardization, then email
