Steve Halliday

From the editor's desk!

Welcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

The end of the year is fast approaching. We seem to have flown through this year at a speed that doesn’t even bear thinking about. In a few short weeks most of you will be celebrating the holidays, so let me take this chance to wish you all a great holiday season and a very happy and prosperous new year.

The problems with last month’s “loss of links” has been resolved and we are back in the business of tracking news. The response from the company that supplies the software was magnificent and they quickly solved the problem for me (although it was taking a step back in their minds) and we again have all the news available.

Have you noticed how the news has changed over the last year? When we started the year, we remarked how many references to RFID and to EPCglobal there are every month. While the number of articles on RFID has continued to grow, the number on EPCglobal™ has dramatically reduced. This month there were only 32 articles on EPCglobal. Is this a sign that the world is beginning to understand that RFID encompasses more than just cases and pallets?

Providing this newsletter is just a part of what we have to offer here at High Tech Aid. When your problem needs have you overwhelmed, then you need to get help and that is why we are here. We specialize in education, but the spectrum of services is much greater than that. Call or email us for more information. Visit the web site www.hightechaid.com for more information on basic technology details as well as many other things.

RFID Standards

It’s been a quiet month for standards after all the action last month. The ballot for a new HF work item in ISO has been delayed so that the work can be kept parallel to the work in EPCglobal™. The promised new work items in active tags and in UHF have not yet materialized and the world seems to be taking a breath in anticipation of 2007.

If you need more specific information on any of this work, let me know.

If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com

A new white paper from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN), “RFID Tag Data Security Infrastructure: A Common Ground Approach for Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Safety,” defines the key deliverables and requirements needed to achieve agreement between segments of the supply chain concerned with privacy, as well as the ability to use product information to improve operational efficiencies.
