From the Editor's Desk

Steve HallidayWelcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

Summer is here in the northern hemisphere, though in Pittsburgh we havent felt much of the heat yet. Although the temperature is pleasant, we are seeing rain storms, the grass is still green, and needs to be cut all the time. Summer usually brings a dry spell with the grass turning brown and dying back. On the positive side, during my annual pilgrimage to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (http://www.pvgp.org) we had great weather (a short shower of rain in the afternoon, but temps around 70 degrees meant lots of time for the racing and looking at the cars.) We arrived in a convoy of 72 MINI Coopers after a drive through town escorted by the Sherriff's department. Here's me with the car before the convoy http://www.flickr.com/photos/40567605@N05/3733878948/in/pool-pittstopmini.

RFID Standards

It has been quiet this month on the standards front, though everything heats up in the coming weeks as we get set to have several large Ballot Resolution Meetings (BRM). Some BRMs will be finished by phone in early August and then there will be even more standards that need BRMs when we all go to London, UK at the end of August.

In particular, ISO/IEC 18000-6 is the standard for UHF RFID in ISO and that document is currently being revised. The latest round of ballots closed a few weeks back and we started the BRM. Unfortunately, there were so many comments that we ran out of time at the Sydney, Australia meeting, so we will try to finish the meeting by telephone at the start of August.

Other standards that will need to finalized at BRMs include: ISO/IEC 15961 (all parts) and 15962.

If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com.
