From the Editor's Desk

Steve HallidayWelcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

I'm delighted to announce that I've been awarded the Richard R. Dilling award. I've seen individuals win it over the years who are visionaries, mentors, and, I'm proud to say, my friends. What an honor and surprise for this to be given to me. Thank you to AIM and all those involved. You can read more about this award from AIM on their page at http://www.aimglobal.org/aboutaim/awards.asp.

This month I attended and presented at the AIM Expo, a new trade show/conference that covers all the aspects of our industry. The show was small but had a great assortment of vendors. RFID attendance was thin, but other aspects were well represented. The conference side was great. The sessions I attended were well given on good topics, though the attendance at some was not high. My sessions both went well; even the standards discussion brought some good questions.

If you are interested in RFID things you can follow my tweets at @RFIDMan.

RFID Standards

This month has been slow for standards work. ISO/IEC 15961 and 15962 are gradually progressing through their Comment Resolution Meetings. Looks like the comments may be finished before the end of the year.

ISO/IEC 18000-6 still has not been published with the new work on standardized sensor and battery assist techniques. The document is at ISO being converted into the final document. However, a new work item to break this 467 page monster into useable pieces has passed the NP ballot and work is starting on the project.

ISO/IEC/JTC 1/SC 31/WG 7 will meet later this month to work more on ISO/IEC 29167 Security and File Management for RFID.

The new home for RFID Standards is up and running. You can visit http://www.understandRFIDstandards.com for an ongoing update on what is happening in standards.. Don't forget to sign up for the occasional email about important events/happening in this arena.

If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com.
