From the Editor's Desk There has been lots of interesting news this month, including several new product announcements that will be of importance to the RFID world. You will see below that we have added a new category for coverage – Mobile Commerce. The subject is starting to see a lot of coverage, and some of the applications that are being discussed have a lot of potential. I downloaded some of the applications to my phone and they are certainly interesting – give them a try. I provide a monthly column for Scan, The Data Capture Report, and this month I talked about the problem of education. Here is a snippet from that article. “When RFID was "new" we did not expect many people to know how to use or install the systems and so our expectations were low and so was the users'. Now, we have RFID mentioned in all the major forms of communications, there are television spots that feature it, the newspapers run stories on it (not always in a positive way) and yet the amount of misinformation out there is enormous. I talk to systems integrators all the time and I am often stunned by how little they understand about the technologies they are working with. Where did the industry go wrong? The time has come to solve these problems. AIM has recently announced that they will be holding a trade show and conference again this year after many years of not having a show. We know that conference and show attendance is a small fraction of what it used to be, so while I believe this show is a great start, I am not sure how it will satisfy the big problem. Maybe now is the time for AIM to solve this problem and create a means to bring education to the people who need it.” If you are interested in getting involved in solving the problem, or getting more education, let me know and I will make sure the AIM leadership hears you.
